Hippopotamus has the third place in the list of the largest mammal animals in the world. The first two are elephant and rhino. A mature hippo can weigh between 5,001 to 8,000 pounds. From head to rump, the length of the hippo is 9.5 to 14 feet. The tail of the hippo maybe 35 to 50 centimeters. In Africa, both species of a hippopotamus can be found. Two species of hippo are Large and Pygmy. You can find the giant hippo on the south side of Sahara, East Africa. You can find Pygmy hippo in West Africa. Hippo love to live in lakes, swamps, and rivers. They can spend up to 17 hours in the water. Hippo eats grass, plant shoots, and reeds as it is a herbivores animal. The skin of the hippo is hairless and sticky.
The skin tone is grayish-black. The color of the underbelly of the hippo is pinkish. Hippo’s skin extracts a black color substance that protects the hippo from heat and sun, germs, and moisturizers. As hippos like to be in a group, you will always find them in a group of 25 to 100 hippos. The life span of the hippo is around 40 years.
Wildebeest, an herbivorous mammal, has a mane on the upper and lower side of the neck. Horns are black and curved upwards. Wildebeest’s hair is light brown with black specs. National Geography stated that the wide sweet might have weight up to 600 to 650 pounds. They are found in southern, central, and western Africa as in these regions, and wildebeests can find the best place for habitat. Wildebeests like to travel and huddle in a group.
